Republican incumbent John Curran of Woodridge was re-elected to the DuPage County Board Tuesday.

“DuPage County is a great place to live and raise a family,” Curran said. The support for Republican candidates shows “people appreciate the vision we have laid out and developed. The results show people do value this leadership.”

Curran’s priority for the next four years will be “to continue to pursue opportunities to consolidate and streamline government services to bring down costs.”

With all precincts reporting, unofficial results showed Curran with 62 percent of the votes, or 30,585, compared to Democrat Pamela Miles’ 37 percent, or 18,188 votes. The 3rd District is in the southeastern part of the county, which includes all or parts of Burr Ridge, Clarendon Hills, Darien, Hinsdale, Westmont and Willowbrook.

Curran, who is a Cook County assistant state’s attorney, has served on the County Board since 2009. He has supported changes to county employee benefits to reduce future pensions and hopes to reduce operating expenses further by consolidating programs and resources, such as mosquito abatement and firefighting equipment, with other counties or government bodies.

Miles, a retired television journalist and former director of a community-based correctional center in Ohio, now living in Downers Grove, said representing the 3rd district would have been her full-time job. She said she would have better represented the diversity of the district and had more time to meet with residents and put forth their concerns.

Republican were victorious in the three contested countywide offices as well, with all precincts reporting.

In the County Board chairman race, incumbent Dan Cronin had 176,288 votes compared with challenger Robert Peickert with 95,288 votes.

Sheriff John Zaruba won re-election with 168,284 votes compared to challenger Mike Quiroz with 100,680 votes.

In the county clerk’s race, Republican Paul Hinds had 160,251 votes with Democrat Jean Kaczmarek garnering 106,934 votes.
